40 years of Midwest Athletic Club

The M.A.C. Midwest Athletic Club and affilate partner iGYM (www.iGYMia.com) has been the fitness destinations in the Eastern Iowa Corridor for over 40 years. It is a pleasure to have this opportunity to thank the community, our customers and our staff for having made The M.A.C. and iGYM a successful and respectable, family locally owned and operated health club!

  • 1984: The first club, New Image Fitness & Gym, opens in a 3,000 square-foot facility in K-Mart East Plaza off Collins Road in Cedar Rapids.
  • 1987: The club relocates to a 9,000 square-foot building on Blairs Ferry Road NE.
  • 1996: Complete rebrand of The MAC (Midwest Athletic Club).
  • 1997: The MAC South location opens on the southwest side of Cedar Rapids.
  • 2005: Converts 56,000 square-feet of the former Shopko/Jacks building off 1st Avenue SE into the Xtreme location.
  • 2006: MAC 24/7 Xpress Fitness club opens in Hiawatha.
  • 2008: MAC 24/7 Xpress Fitness club opens in Fairfax.
  • 2009: MAC 24/7 Xpress Fitness club opens in downtown Cedar Rapids.
  • 2011: Complete remodel of the south location.
  • 2011: Smoothie Xpress opens (formerly located inside the Xtreme location).
  • 2011: MAC 24/7 Xpress Fitness club opens in Marion.
  • 2013: Sister club iGYM opens off Blairs Ferry Rd. NE in Cedar Rapids.
  • 2014: Hiawatha Xpress 24/7 moves to The Fountains
  • 2016: iGYM Edgewood SW opens.
  • 2019: Completes remodel of MAC Xtreme.
  • 2020: Loses MAC South to the Derecho.
  • 2021: Moves Marion 24/7 to East Town Crossing off Highway 13 in Marion
  • 2022: iGYM Tiffin opens.
  • 2023: 319 Sport Performance for young athletes opens.
  • 2024: MAC Founders Wayne and Jackie Meier retire.
  • 2024: Sold business to their children, Curtis & Chelsey.
